Dec. 12, 1952
WITH U.S. 7TH DIV., Dec. 12 - Operation
Santa Claus, the 7th Division's Christmas mission aimed at
creating joy among Korean children, has been reported pressing toward
its objective as November payday contributions were being counted.
The spirit of the Bayonet Division and of the Christmas season will
provide clothing, food, and toys for thousands of children in scattered
villages through six "task forces."
PRACTICAL GIFTS such as warm clothing will be purchased.
Other presents are also in the offering, and parties are being planned
by each tack force. Task Force Dasher, commanded by Brig. Gen. Derrill
M. Daniel, assistant division commander, plans to provide clothing by
presenting yard goods to the gun-soo, or county head, and having the
material cut by the Koreans themselves in appropriate clothing sizes
for some 3,300 children. "In this way," Daniel explained, "the people
can make those items of clothing that they need, and local officials
will make certain that only those residing in the area actually get
a share of the material."
