GANGPLANK TO FREEDOM. Doors spread wide like
open arms of welcome, this giant C-54 transport of the US Far
East Air Forces helped evacuate 1,000 tiny orphans of war from
the Korean capital city of Seoul to South Korea. Many of the children
sick, most of them inadequately clothed against icy blasts sweeping
across the airfield, they nevertheless quickly grasped the meaning
of the 15 C-54s of the FEAF Combat Cargo Command waiting to receive
them across their gangways. This held the promise of warmth, of
safety, of freedom. Dec. 1950
