Hess, Daughter Depart for U.S.

Tachikawa AB, Japan (S&S)-Air Force Col. Dean E. Hess, the "Flying Parson" of Korean War fame, left here at 5 p.m. Thursday for Hickam AFB, Hawaii.

He was accompanied by his newly adopted daughter, Mee Wha, a 6-year-old Korean orphan.

Hess was awarded the Republic of Korea Order of Cultural Merit Medal Tuesday in Seoul by ROK President Posun Yun. He became the first American military man to receive the medal, awarded for humanitarian assistance.
