Yank Adopts Taegu Orphans
KComZ Soldier Teaches English to Korean Waifs

TAEGU, Korea (KComZ) - PFC Larry Stracener, KComZ AG Section, an orphan himself, has adopted a Korean orphanage as his personal AFAK project.

He spends four hours each evening teaching English to 58 children of the Salvation Army Home for Girls in Taeju.

Handicapped by lack of coaching aids, the Jacksonville, Fla., soldier, made his own charts to teach the children the alphabet and syllable sounds.

Concerned over lack of schoolroom facilities, Stracener got approval for issue of wood for 30 small desks.  He built them himself on weekends in the 8070th Engineer Co. carpenter shop.  Each is a foot high and has the student's name painted on it.
