Orphanage Monument Dedicated

The 11th Anniversary of the Shin Ae Won Children's Orphanage near Wonju is commemorated with the unveiling of a special monument to the institution's founders.  The orphanage, formerly known as the Little Wanderer's Orphanage, was started by Chaplain (Capt.) A.L. Anderson, Maj. Edward R. Bates, and Lt. Col. William W. Stone, in 1953.  Standing to the left of the monument during its dedication are Capt. William G. Crain (left), commanding officer of D Co. (Rifle), 17th Inf., whose unit sponsors the orphanage; Chaplain (Capt.) Clyde M. Aiken, Camp Long post chaplain, and Chaplain (Capt.) Sok Hyon Kim (right), a First Republic of Korea Army chaplain.  Orphanage officials and a member of the First Republic of Korea Army flank the right side of the monument.

"IN GRATITUDE AND LOVE TO
CHAPLAIN A. L. ANDERSON WHO MADE
SHIN AE WON (LITTLE WANDERER'S HOME) ORPHANAGE POSSIBLE
AND TO MAJOR EDWARD R. BATES,
WHOSE EFFORTS ARE CONTINUING
OUR THANKS TO COL. WILLIAM W. STONE
WHOSE AID IS STILL SEEN HERE."
